Local Walks

Our cottages are surrounded by places to explore whether it be a gentle stroll around our local reservoirs or a challenging moorland ramble. Be sure to pack your walking boots and attire!

Although the reservoir directly in front of our cottages is inaccessible to the public, Winscar reservoir, which is just down the road from us is equally as beautiful. Winscar is perfect for those wanting an easy gentle stroll with it being flat and easy ground, it is also ideal for the younger ones of the family who wish to ride their bikes.

For the more challenged walker, if you turn left out of our cottages, just up the road, there is a bridleway with spectacular views across Thurlston Moor and surrounding areas.

You can also join the Trans Pennine Trail easily from our cottages with just a short walk down the road. The trail is ideal for all the family to enjoy together whether it be by foot or cycle.

The Longdendale Trail is within a short distance from our cottages. The Longdendale Trail is a 6.5 mile (10.4km) long-distance walking/cycling trail on the former Woodhead Railway Line.

Other reservoirs with walks around in the local area are:

Scout Dike is also a reservoir in which you can fish for trout on a day ticket.
